One year ago, Current Tribal Law & Policy, PLLC officially launched with a simple but meaningful purpose: to provide thoughtful, culturally informed legal and policy support to Tribal Nations, Native organizations, and the communities they serve.

Since then, our first year has taken us further than we could have imagined.

Over the past twelve months, we have had the privilege of supporting work involving tribal governance, federal Indian law, public policy, tribal justice systems, economic development, recognition, cultural resources, and other issues that directly affect Indian Country. We have worked alongside tribal leaders, attorneys, advocates, educators, organizations, and community members who remind us every day why this work matters.

We have also had opportunities to teach, present, convene, and build relationships across Indian Country. From legal education and policy discussions to conferences, community events, and direct service efforts, each opportunity has reinforced our belief that strong legal advocacy should not exist separately from community.

One of the most meaningful parts of this first year has been seeing an idea become something tangible.

Current Tribal Law was created by two Native women attorneys who believed there was space for a law firm grounded in both legal excellence and a genuine understanding of Tribal Nations and Native communities. As Lumbee women, our connection to this work is personal. We know that the issues facing Native people are not simply legal questions on paper. They affect governments, families, cultures, economies, lands, and future generations.

This year has also been about partnership.

We are grateful to every Tribal Nation, client, organization, colleague, mentor, community partner, and friend who has trusted us, worked alongside us, shared our name, attended a presentation, offered advice, or encouraged us along the way. A young firm grows because people believe in its work, and we do not take that support for granted.

As we enter our second year, our commitment remains the same: to serve with integrity, to continue learning, to advocate thoughtfully, and to help strengthen the legal and policy foundations that allow Native communities to exercise sovereignty and shape their own futures.

There is still much work ahead, and we are excited about what comes next.

Thank you for being part of our first year.

Here’s to year two.
